WARNING: BEWARE OF JURY SERVICE SCAMS

Monday, August 21, 2023

You may be the target of a juror scam. Recently a number of people have received phone calls, texts, and/or emails from individuals identifying themselves as being local law enforcemnet officers with a warrant for your arrest or other threats of prosecution for failing to appear for jury service in federal court. The callers then insist upon immediate payment of a fine, bail, etc. to avoid arrest.

These calls, texts, and emails are fraudulent and are not connected with the U.S. Courts.

Members of the public are warned about any request to provide confidential or financial information in response to callers or to an email. The Federal Court will not ask for any sensitive information such as a Social Security number, a driver's license number, home address, or financial information in a telephone call or email.

Initial contact between a Federal Court and a prospective juror will be a request through the U.S. mail to complete a Juror Qualification Questionnaire (some jurors may subsequently go online to a secure court website to complete that questionnaire.) Phone contact by Federal Court officials to potential jurors will never include requests for Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or other sensitive information. Federal Court officials will also never request that you make any payment of a fine over the phone or by use of a prepaid money card, credit card, debit card, ACH transfer, Venmo, PayPal, or cryptocurrency.

If you receive a call asking for this information, or if you have questions, please contact the Jury Administrator at (615) 736-5483.
